Key Advantages and Applications of High-Power Battery Chargers: The LTE BC1000 / BC1700 Series
As industrial automation, electric vehicles, and energy storage systems continue to advance, battery packs are trending toward higher capacities and voltage levels. Conventional low-power chargers can no longer keep up with field demands for fast recharging and long-duration, stable output. As a result, high-power battery chargers (500W and above) have become essential equipment across industrial and mobility applications.
Why High-Power Battery Chargers Matter
The larger a battery's capacity, the more energy and time its charging requires. An underpowered charger not only extends recharge time and reduces equipment uptime — prolonged, inefficient high-current charging can also cause excessive battery temperature rise and shortened cycle life. High-power chargers address this by combining higher output current with more complete multi-stage charging curve control, shortening charge time while ensuring the battery pack receives a stable, safe energy supply. This makes them especially well suited to production lines and vehicles that operate continuously and cannot afford long downtime.
Technical Strengths of LTE's High-Power Charger Series
1. Universal Input for Global Markets
Both the LTE-BC1000 and LTE-BC1700 support a full-range 90–264VAC, 50/60Hz input and feature built-in active PFC (Power Factor Correction), achieving a power factor above PF > 0.95.
2. Smart Multi-Stage Charging Curves
LTE's high-power chargers offer selectable 2-stage / 3-stage / 8-stage automatic charging curves with microprocessor control, automatically adjusting the charging stage based on battery condition to prevent overcharging. The BC1700 goes further, supporting both lead-acid and lithium batteries, with panel jumper settings to switch between 24V lead-acid and 7S/8S lithium battery configurations. Multi-stage charging curves are the core technology for extending battery life while balancing charging speed and safety.
3. High-Current Output for Faster Recharging
- LTE-BC1000: Maximum output of 1000W, available in 48V/17.4A and 24V/34.7A lead-acid battery configurations.
- LTE-BC1700: Maximum output up to 1680W at 50A, supporting large-capacity lead-acid batteries from 200–640Ah as well as multi-cell lithium battery packs.
High-current output means a battery pack of the same capacity can be recharged in less time — a critical advantage for logistics, warehousing, and transportation operations where every minute counts.
4. CAN Bus Interface for Smart Management
The LTE-BC1700 features a built-in CAN Bus 2.0 interface, enabling integration with a host control computer or onboard vehicle system for remote charge curve configuration and status monitoring. Notably, beyond the standard 7S/8S lithium configuration, cell count can be flexibly adjusted from 6S to 10S via CAN Bus — allowing a single unit to serve multiple battery architectures, greatly improving system integration flexibility and reducing customers' hardware development and inventory costs.
5. Comprehensive Multi-Layer Protection
Both models feature a full suite of protections, including overvoltage protection (OVP), reverse polarity protection, short-circuit protection, overheat protection, and no-battery-connected protection. The LTE-BC1700 additionally provides overcurrent protection (OCP) and overload protection. Comprehensive protection is the foundation for stable long-term operation and reduced field failure rates.
6. Industrial-Grade Durability and Reliability
The chargers support a wide operating temperature range of -20°C to 50°C, meeting industrial requirements for environmental durability and electrical safety — well suited for extended operation outdoors, in warehouses, and in heavy-industrial environments.
Key Application Areas
Industrial Automation and AGV / AMR Material Handling
Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs), Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs), and forklifts require frequent charge/discharge cycles and near-round-the-clock operation. The high-current output and CAN Bus remote monitoring of the LTE-BC1000 and LTE-BC1700 can be integrated with a facility's central control system to enable intelligent scheduled recharging, reducing manual intervention and downtime.
Electric Vehicles and Mobility Systems
This includes electric golf carts, electric forklifts, electric motorcycles, and marine electric propulsion systems, typically paired with 24V, 48V, or multi-cell lithium battery packs. The dual battery-type compatibility (lead-acid/lithium) and flexible voltage output of the LTE-BC1000 and LTE-BC1700 cover the charging needs of a wide range of mobility applications.
Large-Capacity Energy Storage and Backup Power Systems (ESS / UPS)
For telecom base station backup batteries, uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems, and portable power stations, high-power chargers provide fast recharging and stable float-charge management, ensuring backup power is fully charged and ready in the event of a power outage or emergency.
Large-Capacity Lead-Acid Battery Maintenance and Upgrades
The LTE-BC1700 supports large lead-acid battery packs from 200–640Ah, suitable for electric forklifts and industrial vehicles requiring long-duration, high-capacity power supply, while also offering an upgrade path to lithium batteries to help customers navigate battery technology transitions.
A high-power battery charger is about far more than fast charging speed — it reflects a comprehensive combination of charging-curve control precision, communication integration capability, and long-term stability. Drawing on nearly 40 years of experience in magnetic component and power supply design and manufacturing, LTE has extended its power electronics design expertise into its high-power charger product line, helping customers in industrial automation, electric vehicles, and energy storage systems keep pace with ever-increasing battery capacity and charging efficiency demands.
